About Ruben Vazquez

Born in Havana, Cuba, he graduated from the Conservatory “Amadeo Roldan” in 1994. The following year he moved to Toronto and continued his studies at Humber College where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Jazz Studies, in 2006. In the year 2012, he achieved his Associate Diploma from the Royal Conservatory (ARCT) in Piano Performance. He had the opportunity to work and study with virtuoso Pianist and Singer Jose Hernandez. He has studied Jazz Piano and Composition with Chucho Valdez, Hilario Duran, Canadian greats: Brian Dickenson, Don Thompson, Phil Dwyer, Brian Harris, Mark Eisenman and others. He has studied Jazz and Composition with Jay Rahn, Michael Coghlan and Barry Elmes. He is currently concluding his Masters in Music Composition at York University.

Ruben currently teaches piano and theoretical subjects at the Royal Conservatory of Music since 2002. He has performed at the Latin Grammy celebrations in 2004, and also at the Canadian Genie Awards with Jane Bunnet. Also has performed with different ensembles at the Toronto Jazz Festival and other local and provincial festivals. He has played as a pianist of the Three International Tenors, with whom he has participated in a number of tours in Europe, South America and the United States. Also he has played for Luis Mario’s band, Fantasia Salsa Band, World Music Juno Award winner Pacande and Diego Marulanda, Nick Ali and Marron Matizado, Ricky Franco and his P-Crew Salsa Band.
